In1936,GrahammadeherdefiningworkChronicle,whichsignaledthebeginningofanewerainmoderndance.Thedancebroughtseriousissuestothestageforthegeneralpublicinadramaticmanner.InfluencedbytheWallStreetCrashof1929,theGreatDepressionthatfollowed,andtheSpanishCivilWar,itfocusedondepressionandisolation,reflectedinthedarknatureofboththesetandcostumes.
Grahamcontinuedtodancepasttheageofseventy.Onceagain,shewasmetwithcriticismfrompeoplewhocametowatchhershows.Butshedidn'tgiveup.Herlastcompletedballetwas1990'sMapleLeafRag."ADancer'sWorld"isanintroductiontoGrahamandherwork.Shetellsaboutherdancesandherdancegroupshowssomeoftheirmethods.
MarthaGrahamreceivedmanyawardsduringherlifetime,includingthePresidentialMedalofFreedomin1976.Shewasthefirstdancertoreceivethecountry'shighestcivilianhonor.Shediedin1991attheageofninety-six.In1998,Timemagazinelistedherasthe"DanceroftheCentury"bandasoneofthemostimportantpeopleofthetwentiethcentury.

Tocometotheirconclusion,theteamstudieda46-year-oldwomanwhoisonlyusuallyabletofallasleepat2or3inthemorning.
Itwasdiscoveredthatthewoman’sbodyproducesthehormonethathelpsussleepatnightuptosevenhourslaterthanregularsleepers.Thescientistsfoundthiswascausedbyamutationinoneofthewoman’sgene,onethathelpsregulatethe“bodyclock”.
Someofthewoman’sfamilymemberswerealsofoundtosharethesamemutation----andthesamesleepingproblems----leadingthescientiststobelievethatsleeptroublesarepasseddownthroughthegenerations.
