Theresearchersexplainedthatsadmusicarousedcontradictoryemotionsbecausetheparticipantsofthestudytendedtofeelsadtobemoretragicandlessromanticthantheyfeltthemselveswhilelisteningtoit.

“Ingeneral,sadmusiccausessadnessinlisteners,andsadnessisregardedasanunpleasantemotion.Ifsadmusicactuallyarousesonlyunpleasantemotion,wewouldnotlistentoit,”theresearcherswroteinthestudy.
