Theteamspentseveralweeksgatheringinformationabouttheharmfulchemicalsine-wasteandtheireffectsonhumans.Theylearnedhowtodispose(处置)ofe-wasteproperlyandhowitcouldberecycled.Then,theysentoutasurveyandfoundonlyoneineightknewwhate-wastewas,letalonehowtoproperlydisposeofit.
Alexandhisfriendswentintoaction.Theyadvertisedinthelocalnewspaperanddistributednoticestostudents,askingresidentstobringtheirunwantedelectronicstotheschoolparkinglot.Thedrivelastedtwodays,andtheycollectedover9,500kilogramsofe-waste.
Thenextstepwastosetupalong-terme-wastedrop-offcenterforthetown.Aftersomeresearch,they’dlearnedthatreusingisthebestwaytodealwithelectronicdevicesanditisseventimesmoreefficientthanrecycling.So,theybeganlearningtorefurbish(翻新)computersthemselvesanddistributedthemtostudentswhodidn’thavetheirown.Inthisway,theycouldhelpstudentsintheareaandprotecttheenvironmentatthesametime.
