forimprovingqualityandefficiencyinUKconstruction.

Asuccessfulconstructionindustryisessentialtousall.weallbenefitfromhighquality

housing,hospitalsortransportinfrastructurethatareconstructedefficiently.Atitsbest

theUKconstructionindustrydisplaysexcellence.But,thereisnodoubtthatsubstantial

improvementsinqualityandefficiencyarepossible.Indeed,theyarevitaliftheindustryis

tosatisfyallitscustomersandreapthebenefitsofbecomingaworldleader.TheConstruction

TaskForcewishestoseethedramaticimprovementsalreadybeingdemonstratedonclient-ledproj-

ectsspreadthroughoutUKconstruction.

Informulatingourproposalsforimprovingperformancewehavestudiedtheexperiencethat

hasbeengainedatthecuttingedgeofconstructionandinotherindustriesthathavetransformed

themselvesinrecentyears.Wehavelearntthatcontinuousandsustainedimprovementis

achievableifwefocusalloureffortsondeliveringthevaluethatourcustomersneed,andif

wearepreparedtochallengethewasteandpoorqualityarisingfromourexistingstructures

andworkingpractices.

Weknowthatitisnoteasytosustainradicalimprovementinanindustryasdiverseas

construction.But,wemustdosotosecureourfuture.ThroughtheTaskForce,themajor

clientshavecommittedthemselvestodrivingforwardthemodernisationoftheconstruction

industry.WelooktoGovernment,asthelargestclient,tojoinus.But,wearealsoissuing

achallengetotheconstructionindustrytocommititselftochange,sothat,workingtogether,

wecancreateamodernindustry,readytofacethenewmillennium.”
