Cytokinescanreachthebrainseveralways:

directlythroughtheblood-brainbarrierorindirectly

bybindingtonervefiberselsewhere,whichsendsignalstothebraintoproducetheinflammation

molecules.Inthebrain,cytokinescandisturbtheproductionandreleaseofseveralimportantsignaling

chemicals,includingserotonin,dopamineandglutamate,whichhelpcontrolemotion,appetite,sleep,

learningandmemory.It’sthoughthatalackofserotoninactivityinthebraincausesdepression;most

antidepressantsincreasetheactivity.Butcytokinesalsohavebeenshowntoactivatestresshormone
