Moviesarealsoareallygoodtool,especiallyifyoucanfindsubtitlesinthelanguageyou’relearning.Thoughtheydon’talwaysexactlymatchwhat’sbeingsaid,theywillstillkeepyourbrainlisteningandreadinginthesamelanguage.Musicisanotherwaytostartlisteningtothingsinyournewlanguage.Personally,thisdoesn’treallyworkforme,butIhavefriendswholearnalanguagethroughlyrics.Gamesarealsoanexcellentwayofstudyinganewlanguage.Alotoflanguagelearningcomputerprogramsincludegames.I’msupercompetitiveandifIplayanyofthem,Icanbehookedforhours.

Whentheinitialexcitementoflearninganewlanguagebeginstofade,itcanbehardtostickwithit.IdeallyIwillsignuptotakeabiglanguageexambecausethenI’ll have tokeepstudying,andworktomasterthedetails thatseemunimportantenoughineverydayusagethatItendtojustignorethem.EachtimeIstartgetting complacent,it’stimetotakeanewcourseorsignupforonlinelessons,ortakeupsomesortofchallengethatwillrequiremetolevelupmyskills.

IalsotrytothinkinthelanguageI’mlearning.ThebestlanguageclassI’veevertakenwasmybeginner’sRussiancourseatuniversitywheremyprofessorneverusedanyEnglish.ItgottothepointwhereIwouldkindofjustforgetaboutEnglishwhileinRussianclass,whichhelpedmetoreallyimmersemyselfintheRussianlanguageanddoalotwiththelimitedRussianIhad.
