Second,thereistheFamilyTerritory,atthecenterofwhichisthebedroom.Thisisusuallyasfarawayaspossiblefromthefrontdoor.Betweenthebedroomandthefrontdoorarethespaceswherevisitorsareallowedtoenter.Peoplebehavedifferentlywhenthey’reinsomeoneelse’shouse.Assoonastheycomeupthedrivewayorwalkthroughthefrontdoor—thefirstsignalsoffamilyterritory—theyareinanareawhichdoesnotbelongtothem.Theydonotfeelathome,becauseitisfullofotherpeople’sbelongings—fromtheflowersinthegardentothechairs,tables,carpets,ornaments,andotherthingsinthehouse.Inthesameway,whenafamilygoestothebeachortotheparkforapicnic,theymarkoutasmallterritorywithtowels,baskets,andotherbelongings;otherfamiliesrespectthis,andtrynottositdownrightbesidethem.
