intheUnitedStates,Britain，Australia，NewZealand，Canada，someCaribbeancountries，andSouthAfrica.Asasecondlanguage，Englishisoftennecessaryforofficialbusiness，education，informationandotheractivitiesinagreatmanycountriessuchasIndia，Pakistan，Nigeria，Singapore，andthePhilippines.Itisoneofthefew“working”languagesoftheUnitedNationsandismorefrequentlyusedthantheothers.

ItissaidthatEnglishhasbecomethelanguageofinternationaltradeandtransport.Mostplanestravelingfromonecountrytoanotheruseittotalkwithairports.Allshipssailingontheoceanscallforhelpbyradioinit.Ithasbeensaidthat60percentoftheworld’sradiobroadcastsand70percentofworld’smailareinEnglish.Atinternationalsportsmeets，atmeetingsofscientistsfromdifferentcountries，andtalkofwritersandartistsfromthecornersoftheearth，Englishisthelanguagemostcommonlyusedandmostwidelyunderstood.
