Abstract
Americanabolitionistmovementfromtheearly18thcenturytothemiddleofthe19thcenturyhasbeencarried.Fromtheearly18thcentury,insight,advanceswritershavepublishedworkscondemnedofslaveryinthenewspapers,magazinesandotherpublications,totheclimaxinthe1830s.Poemspublishedpoet,writerpublishednovelswerefloggingoverSlavery.ThemostAbolitionistsliteraturerepresentativeworksareUncleTom'sCabinbyMrs.Stowe.ThisworksuccessfullydepictstheroleofUncleTom,hasgreatsignificanceandvalue.UncleTom'sCabinwaslatertranslatedintomorethantwentylanguagesandsoldanastounding1.5millioncopiesworldwide.ReportedlygreetedbyAbrahamLincolnas"thelittlewomanwhowrotethebookthatmadethisgreatwar"inan1862visittotheWhiteHouse,Stoweimmediatelyreachediconicstatusforherphenomenallysuccessfulandprovokingdepictionofthehorrorsofslavery.UncleTom'sCabinprovidesacompellingrepresentationofthecomplexandhighlyfraughtabolitionistmovement.Stowe'snovel,whichwouldbecomethemostrecognizableabolitionisttitle,emergedfromanalreadywell-establishedtraditionofliteraryprojectsthatsoughttoendslaveryanditplayedaroleinthenegotiationofvariouspoliticalagendaswithinthemovementitself.

HarrietBeecherStoweisanAmericanWriter,(June14,1811–July1,1896)ThenovelUncleTom'sCabinwaspublishedin1852aboutananti-slaverynovel.thenovelisthebest-sellingnovelofthe19thcenturyandisconsideredamajorreasontostimulatedriseofabolitionismin1850.Mrs.HarrietBeecherStowewasthedaughterofafamousAmericanPreachers,Dr.LymanBeecher,andbornofgoodNewEngland,atLitchfield,Conn.SheisateacherofHartfordFemaleAcademyatthesametime;sheisalsoanactiveabolitionist.
ThebookrevolvesaroundasufferingslavesUncleTom'sthestory,anddescribedhimandaroundthemexperiencebothslavesandslaveholders.Thisdeeplysentimentalnoveldepictsthecruelessentiallyofslavery;andthattheChristianlovecanovercomeslaveryfellowhumanbeingsbroughtaboutthevariousinjuries.UncleTom’sCabinshockedthereadingpublicwithitsportrayalofanentiresocietycorruptedbyslavery—maleandfemale,freeandenslaved,enlightenedandbigoted,youngandold,educatedandignorant,northernandsouthern,blackandwhite.Thenovelrevealstheevileffectsoftheslavesystemoneveryoneittouches:
itcorruptspeoplewhoaregoodandnobleinotherrespectsintothebeliefthatslavesarenotfullyhuman.ReportedlygreetedbyAbrahamLincolnas"thelittlewomanwhowrotethebookthatmadethisGreatWar"inan1862visittotheWhiteHouse.
Butinthedecadesafterit’spublished,theliterarycriticshavedeniedtheUncleTom'sCabinandothersentimentalnovelsshowofthisstyle,aliterarycriticsbelievesthatifthenovelandSlaverynoassociation,butitisacommonsentimentalfiction.However,in1985,JaneTompkinsinherlandmarkInSensationalDesigns:
TheCulturalWorkofAmericanFiction,abookhaschangedthisview.Tompkinswaspraisedothercriticswhorefusetorecognizedthesentimentalstyle,andsuggestedthatsentimentalnovelsshowwomen'semotionshavethepowertoimprovetheworld.Itisnotonlytheboosterofliterature,butalsothefuseofpolitical.itisthefoundationforsocialtransformationOntheotherhand,literaturecanalsobepoliticalinitsownwaytorespondtotheseresponsesmaybeunifiedandpolitics,itmaybeadifferenceofevenaboycott.Therefore,itwillmakeanobjectiveandimpartialanalysisoftheliteraryvalueandevaluationofUncleTom'sCabin.
