用法归纳：

3．suchas/forexample/namely

　　它们都有“例如”之意，但suchas一般跟在总体部分后举例说明其中的一些。

也可把suchas分开，形成such＋总体＋as＋分支，suchas不可独立使用。

forexample也指“举例”，所举例子也属总体一部分，但位置较灵活，可放在句中作独立成分，也可放在句末。

namely后面举的例子与前面所说之物内涵相同。

例如：

　　Manycountries,suchasMexicoandJapanhavealotofearthquakes.

　　许多国家比如墨西哥和日本有很多地震。

　　Manycountries,forexample,MexicoandJapan,havealotofearthquakes.

　　Twocountries,namely,MexicoandJapan,havealotofearthquakes.

　　两个国家，即墨西哥和日本有很多地震。

4．totalv.&n.

主要用法：

（1）sth.total＋数字

（2）atotalof＋数字

（3）Thereare＋数字＋intotal

　　　Thenumberofthestudentstotals80.学生的总人数为80人。

　　　Atotalof80studentsareinourclass.

　　相当于：

Thereare80studentsinourclassintotal.

拓展：

“总共”的表达法

　　intotal/inall/cometo/totalupto/altogether/addupto

　　Thereare80studentsintotal/inall/altogether.

5．equaladj.相等的；胜任的vt.等于，比得上

（1）equallyadv.平等地，同样地；equalityn.平等；unequaladj.不平等的

（2）beequaltosth./doingsth.（在气力上、能力上）胜任的；能应付的

　　Billisquiteequalto（thetaskof）runningtheoffice.

　　比尔有足够的能力管理这个部门。

（3）beequaltosth./sb.与……平等；与……相等

　　Thesquareareequalinsizetothatone.这个正方形与那个正方形大小一样。

　　Onedollarisequalto100cents.1美元等于100美分。

　　相当于Onedollarequals100cents.（vt.）

（4）equalsb./sth.（insth.）在……方面与某人/某物匹敌

　　Noonecanequalhergraceasadancer.论舞姿优美，我们谁也比不上她。

　　NoonecanequalTominswimming.游泳方面，谁也比不上汤姆。

（equal也可换为match）

其它表达：

　　anequalcontest势均力敌的竞赛（aclosecontest）

　　Itisequaltosb.whether/if………对某人都一样

　　（相当于Itmakesnodifferencetosb.whether/if…）

　　withoutequal（n.）无比；无敌

6．standn.看台；台；摊；摊位；v.站；支持

（1）坐落；位于

　　Thehousestandsonahill.房屋坐落于小山上。

（2）坚持；维持（作系动词）

　　Thesameremarkstandsgood.这句话继续有效。

（3）经受；忍受can’tstand（bear）sth./doingsth.

　　Ican’tstandthepain/waitinganylonger.我受不了这痛苦/再等下去了。

　　standthetestoftime经受时间的考验

（4）takeastandfor/againststh.赞成/反对某事，相当于standfor/against

（5）摊afruitstand水果摊

（6）standfor代表；主张；支持

　　TheCPCstandfortheCommunistPartyofChina.CPC是中国共产党的英文名称缩写。

　　Westandforself-reliance.我们主张自力更生。

（7）standout突出，出色；显眼（outstandingadj.出色的；显著的）

　　Thenewroadsigniseasytoread;thewordsstandoutwell.

　　新路标容易辨认，上面的字很醒目。

　　AmongthecomediansChaplinstandsoutasarealmaster.

　　在众多的喜剧演员中，卓别林最为杰出，是一位真正的大师。

7．comparevt.比较

（1）compare…to/with…把……与……做比较/对照

　　Icomparedthecopywith/totheoriginal,buttherewasn’tmuchdifference.

　　我比较了复印本和原件，不过差别不是很大。

（2）comparedto/with…与……相比较（常用于句首）

　　Comparedto/withParis,Londonislarger.

　　与巴黎相比，伦敦较大。

（也可作：

Londonislarger,comparedto/withParis.）

（3）compare…to…把……比做/比喻为……

　　Thepoetcomparesthewomanhelovestoarose.

　　这位诗人把他所钟情的女人比做玫瑰花。

（4）comparenoteswithsb.与某人交换思想/观点/意见

（5）beyond/withoutcompare无与伦比

派生词：

　　a/thecomparisonbetween…and………之间的比较

8．makeoneselfathome别客气

（1）也可作：

makeoneselfcomfortable常用于祈使句。

（2）be/feelathome随便；无拘束；运用自如

　　He’scompletelyathomewithcomputers.他对电脑十分在行。

拓展：

　　Helpyourselftosomefish!

请吃一些鱼吧，别客气！

　　Themoneywasonthetableandnoonewasthere,sohehelpedhimself（toit）.

　　钱放在桌子上，又没有人在那儿，因此他自行拿去了。

9．exceptfor

（1）主要用于对不同类的事物的排除，这时一般不用except或but，如：

　　Thebusisemptyexceptforanoldlady.

　　公共汽车上除了一个老太太外，什么都没有。

（bus与lady非同类）

（2）主要用于对前面所陈述的订正、修正，for在此指的是原因、理由，可作“要不是”。

　　Yourcompositionisgoodexceptforsomespellingmistakes.

　　除了一些拼写错误外（要不是一些拼写错误），你的作文是可以的。

（3）exceptfor在其它情况下，可用作except。

　　Heansweredallthequestionsexcept（for）thelastone.

　　除了最后一个问题外，他回答了所有的问题。

　　Everyoneishereexcept（for）John.

　　除了约翰外，大家都到了。
