Richorpoor,youngorold,weallhaveproblems.Andunlesswedealwithourproblems,wecaneasilybecomeunhappy.Worryingaboutourproblemscanaffecthowwedoatschool.Itcanalsoinfluencethewaywebehavewithourfamilies.Sohowdowedealwithourproblems?

Therearemanyways.

Bylearningtoforget.

Mostofushaveprobablybeenangrywithourfriends,parentsorteachers.Perhapstheysaidsomethingyoudidn’tlike,oryoufelttheywereunfair.Sometimes,peoplecanstayangryforyearsaboutasmallproblem.Timegoesby,andgoodfriendshipsmaybelost.

Whenweareangry,however,weareusuallytheonesaffected.Perhapswehaveseenyoungchildrenanddecidenottotalktoeachother.However,thisusuallydoesnotlastforlong.Thisisanimportantlessonforus:

3Heusedtocausealotoftrouble.

MartinMurrayisafifteen-year-oldboy.Heusedtobea“problemchild”,butarecentconversationwithhismotherchangedhislife.Hedidn’tusetogivehismothermanyproblems.However,afterhisfather’sdeat5hafewyearsago,Martin’slifebecamemuchmoredifficult.Hismothercouldn’taffordtopayforherchild’seducation.Todothis,shehadtowork,andsowasoftennotathome.

Hismotherlookedafterhimaswellasshecould.Unfortunately,Martinstillcausedproblemsforhimselfandhisfamily.Hewasnotinterestedinstudyingandheoftengotintotroublewiththepolice.Luckily,hismotherwasverypatient,anddidn’tgiveuptryingtohelphim.Intheend,shemadeadifficultdecision:

TheheadteachersaiditwasnecessaryforMartintotalkwithhismother.Martincalledhismother,buttohissurprise,thisphonecallchangedhislife.“ItwasexactlywhatIneeded,”hesaid.“Mymotherhelpedmetounderstandhowmuchshehadgivenme.Shealsotoldmethateventhoughmyfatherwasnolongerwithus,hewaswatchingmeandwouldalwaystakeprideineverythinggoodIdo.That’swhenIdecidedtochange.Irealizethatsincemyfatherdied,Ihavebeenafraidofbeingalone,andhavetriedtomakemymotherpaymoreattentiontome.”
