TheeducationsecretaryNickyMorganhasputemphasisonscience,technology,engineeringandmaths(STEM),sayingthatstudentswhofocusontheartsrisktheircareers.Stoppingyoungpeoplefromexpressingthemselvesatsuchayoungageisnotdoingthemanyfavours.PerhapsNickyMorganhasforgottentoopenthedoorofhavingadrivetostudythatsubjectdayin,dayout.Itshouldn’tmatterwhatthatsubjectis.

Idon’tdoubttheinfluencethatSTEMsubjectscanhaveonthepeoplethatlovethem.Buttoforcechildrenintoonefieldiscruel.AsmuchasItry,I’mnotgoodatanddon’tlovephysics,biologyormaths.Idon’twantacareerintheseareas.

Therehasbeenadecreaseinthenumberofstateschoolsofferingartssubjectstaughtbyspecialistteachers.Ican’tevenimaginehowitfeelstobetoldthatyoudon’tteacha“realsubject”byan8-year-oldboy.
