InthebeginningGodcreatedtheheavensandtheearth.Nowtheearthwasformlessandempty.Darknesswasonthesurfaceofthedeep.God'sSpiritwashoveringoverthesurfaceofthewaters.

Godsaid,"Lettherebelight,"andtherewaslight.Godsawthelight,andsawthatitwasgood.Goddividedthelightfromthedarkness.GodcalledthelightDay,andthedarknesshecalledNight.Therewaseveningandtherewasmorning,oneday.

Godsaid,"Lettherebeanexpanseinthemidstofthewaters,andletitdividethewatersfromthewaters."Godmadetheexpanse,anddividedthewaterswhichwereundertheexpansefromthewaterswhichwereabovetheexpanse,anditwasso.Godcalledtheexpansesky.Therewaseveningandtherewasmorning,asecondday.

Godsaid,"Letthewatersundertheskybegatheredtogethertooneplace,andletthedrylandappear,"anditwasso.GodcalledthedrylandEarth,andthegatheringtogetherofthewatershecalledSeas.Godsawthatitwasgood.Godsaid,"Lettheearthputforthgrass,herbsyieldingseed,andfruittreesbearingfruitaftertheirkind,withitsseedinit,ontheearth,"anditwasso.Theearthbroughtforthgrass,herbsyieldingseedaftertheirkind,andtreesbearingfruit,withitsseedinit,aftertheirkind:

andGodsawthatitwasgood.Therewaseveningandtherewasmorning,athirdday.

Godsaid,"Lettherebelightsintheexpanseofskytodividethedayfromthenight;andletthembeforsigns,andforseasons,andfordaysandyears;andletthembeforlightsintheexpanseofskytogivelightontheearth,"anditwasso.Godmadethetwogreatlights:

thegreaterlighttoruletheday,andthelesserlighttorulethenight.Healsomadethestars.Godsetthemintheexpanseofskytogivelighttotheearth,andtoruleoverthedayandoverthenight,andtodividethelightfromthedarkness.Godsawthatitwasgood.

Therewaseveningandtherewasmorning,afourthday.

Godsaid,"Letthewatersswarmwithswarmsoflivingcreatures,andletbirdsflyabovetheearthintheopenexpanseofsky."Godcreatedthelargeseacreatures,andeverylivingcreaturethatmoves,withwhichthewatersswarmed,aftertheirkind,andeverywingedbirdafteritskind.Godsawthatitwasgood.Godblessedthem,saying,"Befruitful,andmultiply,andfillthewatersintheseas,andletbirdsmultiplyontheearth."Therewaseveningandtherewasmorning,afifthday.

Godsaid,"Lettheearthbringforthlivingcreaturesaftertheirkind,cattle,creepingthings,andanimalsoftheearthaftertheirkind,"anditwasso.Godmadetheanimalsoftheearthaftertheirkind,andthecattleaftertheirkind,andeverythingthatcreepsonthegroundafteritskind.Godsawthatitwasgood.Godsaid,"Letusmakemaninourimage,afterourlikeness:

andletthemhavedominionoverthefishofthesea,andoverthebirdsofthesky,andoverthecattle,andoveralltheearth,andovereverycreepingthingthatcreepsontheearth."Godcreatedmaninhisownimage.InGod'simagehecreatedhim;maleandfemalehecreatedthem.Godblessedthem.Godsaidtothem,"Befruitful,andmultiply,andreplenishtheearth,andsubdueit.Havedominionoverthefishofthesea,andoverthebirdsofthesky,andovereverylivingthingthatmovesontheearth."Godsaid,"Behold,Ihavegivenyoueveryherbyieldingseed,whichisonthesurfaceofalltheearth,andeverytree,whichbearsfruityieldingseed.Itwillbeyourfood.Toeveryanimaloftheearth,andtoeverybirdofthesky,andtoeverythingthatcreepsontheearth,inwhichthereislife,Ihavegiveneverygreenherbforfood."Anditwasso.Godsaweverythingthathehadmade,and,behold,itwasverygood.Therewaseveningandtherewasmorning,asixthday.

Theheavensandtheearthwerefinished,andallthehostofthem.OntheseventhdayGodfinishedhisworkwhichhehadmade;andherestedontheseventhdayfromallhisworkwhichhehadmade.Godblessedtheseventhday,andmadeitholy,becauseherestedinitfromallhisworkwhichhehadcreatedandmade.

Godformedmanfromthedustoftheground,andbreathedintohisnostrilsthebreathoflife;andmanbecamealivingsoul.Godplantedagardeneastward,inEden,andthereheputthemanwhomhehadformed.OutofthegroundGodmadeeverytreetogrowthatispleasanttothesight,andgoodforfood;thetreeoflifealsointhemidstofthegarden,andthetreeoftheknowledgeofgoodandevil.Godtooktheman,andputhimintothegardenofEdentodressitandtokeepit.Godcommandedtheman,saying,"Ofeverytreeofthegardenyoumayfreelyeat:

butofthetreeoftheknowledgeofgoodandevil,youshallnoteatofit:

forinthedaythatyoueatofityouwillsurelydie."

Godsaid,"Itisnotgoodthatthemanshouldbealone;Iwillmakehimah
