摘要

本文旨在探求与分析中英颜色词不同的原因。

首先，文章给出颜色词的定义以及分析中英颜色词中文化差异的原因；其次，对中英语言中基本颜色词的意义做了一个简单的对比；接着，就自然环境与历史背景，文学与艺术，政治背景与宗教信仰三个方面分析了中英颜色词不同文化内涵的原因；最后指出中颜色不仅有其物理本质更赋有丰富的文化内涵，与人类的生活有着密切的联系。

Abstract

ThisarticleaimstoprobeintoandanalyzetheculturalfactorsforthedifferencesbetweenChineseandEnglishcolorwords.First,itgivesthedefinitionofcolorwordsandshowstheimportanceoftheanalysisintheexchangebetweenChineseandEnglishcultureincolorwords;second,itmakesabriefcomparisonofsometypicalculturallordedcolorwordsexpressionsbetweenEnglishandChinese;third,itmakesananalysisofthereasonsfordifferentcultureconnotationbetweenEnglish-Chinesecolorwordsinthreeaspects:

naturalenvironmentsandhistoricalbackgrounds,literaturesandarts,politicalbackgroundsandreligiousbeliefs；Finally,itendsupwithaconclusionthatthecolorsarecloselyconnectedtohumanlifeandhavenotonlyphysicalnaturesbutalsorichculturalconnotations.

Chapter1.Introduction

Culture,inabroadsense,meansintegratedpatternofhumanknowledge,belief,andbehaviorthatisbotharesultofandintegraltothehumancapacityforlearningandtransmittingknowledgetosucceedinggenerations.Culturethusconsistsoflanguage,ideas,beliefs,customs,symbols,etc.Culturereflectsatotalwayoflifeofapeopleinacommunity.Everyhumansocietyhasitsownparticularculture,orsocio-culturalsystem,andcultureissoinclusivethatitpermeatesvirtuallyeveryaspectofhumanlifeandinfluencespredominantlypeople’sbeliefandbehavior,includinglinguisticbehavior.Inthissense,languagesymbolizesculturalreality.Eachlanguagehasitsownmetaphorsthatprovidesemanticcohesionwithinitsboundaries.Motivatedbytheneedandthedesiretoinfluenceothers,actuponthemorevenonlytomakesenseoftheworldaroundthem,peoplechoosetousewordswhichmayinvitesubtledenotativemeaning,connotativemeaningorironicmeaning,orallofthem,duringtheprocesstheculturalmeaningsofthewordsarecreatedandgraduallystereotyped.

Colorwordsareoneoftheillustrationsoftheculturaldifferencesinlanguageuse,whichwemaycomeacrossinourdailylife.Fromthescientificdefinition,colorisavisualphenomenonlaunched,reflectedorcausedthroughcertainlightwavebytheobject;itisonekindofvisualessentialfeaturesofhumaneye.Whileonthebasiccolorwords,thereisnotsomuchdifferenceinEnglishandinChinese,inChinese,thereare赤（chi）、橙（cheng）、黄（huang）、绿（lv）、青（qing）、蓝（lan）、紫（zi），andinEnglishtherearered,yellow,green,blueandpurple,blackandwhite,colorwordsineachnation’slanguagedifferfromoneantherintheworld.

Thehistoryofcolorwordshasgonethroughalong-termchange;nowthecolorwordsnotonlyexpressthecolor,butalsoimplytheculturalfactorsofeachcountry,differentculturescanreflectonecountry’shistory,aesthetictasteandnationalpsychology.Itisthebrightandcolorfulnaturewhichprovidestheplaceforlifeandthefoundationfordeveloping.Therefore,itisofgreatimportancetostudycolorwordstofindouthowtheyreflectculturaldifferencesinboththeoriginalandtargetlanguageandwhytheycaninfluenceourdailylife.
