Datadescribingtheconsumerlong-lastingproductsfrom1972to1983wassurveyedinBritain.Thisresearchinvolvedeightproductswhichwereusedinhouseholds.
Accordingtothetable,onlywastelevisionrecordedmorethan90%andlessthan100%duringthisperiod.ThisindicatedthattelevisionbecameaninseparabletechnologyformostpeopleinBritain.Differentfromformerone,therewasaslightriseoccurringinvacuumcleaner,washingmachine,anddishwasher.Forvacuumcleaner,therewasnodatashownonthetablein1983,whereasdatarecordingdishwasherstartedin1978.Inaddition,videowhichreachedby18%wasonlypresentedin1983.
Ontheotherhand,thesignificantincreasesofdurablesarecentralheating,refrigerator,andtelephone.Incentralheatinguse,itdoubledinpercentageapproximately30%(1972)to64%(1983).Then,therewasanoticeabledifferencebothfridgeandtelephone.Between1972and1983,thepercentageofusingfridgegrewfrom73%to94%,andincreasedfrom42%to77%fortelephone.
Inconclusion,devicesprovidingcommunicationandentertainmentconceivablybecameamainneedforBritainpeopleintheseyears.Thiscouldbeseenfromtheenormouspercentagebothtelephoneandtelevision.

Motherhoodnowadayshasdevelopedintoavitalpositioninsociety,whichhasnearlyover-takenfatherhood.However,thereexistsaninfluencingideathatwomenareresponsibleforfosteringthechildrenassociatedwiththeopinionthatwomenhavetheindependentresponsibilitytomakethedecisiontohavebabiesornot.Frommyperspective,Iamagainstthisviewpoint,andIsupposethatmalesandfemalesoughttoplayanequalroleduringtheirchildren'
sgrowth.
Tobeginwith,itisadmittedthatincontemporarysocietymenandwomenhaveadifferentincorporationwhenrunningafamily.Menemphasizemoreinmaterialsupplying.Forexampletheyaremoreresponsibleforfinanceandsymbolstatus,whereastheirwivesmostlykeenonlifestyleandemotionalaspects.Therefore,itseemstobethatwomenhavemorepotentialabilityanddutytoraiseachildthantheirhusbands,whichisdecidedbynaturalcharacteristics.However,whatmusttobepointedoutisthathavingmoredutyisnotthesameasholdingasoleresponsibilityintakingcareofchildren.What'
smore,materialisalsoanessentialaspectwhenraisingachild.Herefollowsmyexplanationstowardthisview.
Firstly,inrecentyears,menandwomenarenowhavingthesamerightsandobligationsinvariousfields:
work,familyandsocialrolesforinstance.Thereforetheirrighttomakeadecisiononsomeimportantissuesinafamilyshouldbeequal,whichmeansitisnecessarytomakedecisionsaftertalkingwitheachother.Moreover,afamilyisanentity,also,thechildrenaremembersofthisentity.Asaresultitisundoubtedthatmalesandtheirfemalecounterpartsshouldbringtheirbabiesuptogether,therebypromotingthefamilybondingofhusbandandwife,andwhat'
sfurther,oftwogenerations.
Inconclusion,personallyIthinkmenandwomenshouldhaveacleardivisionwhenfosteringtheirbabies.Fathersareaimingmoreatfinancialsupportwhilstmothersarefocusingmostlyonbabies'
emotionalrespectsandmoraleducation.Onlyinthiswaycanafamilybeunitedandremainacircumstanceofwell-being.

Thebarchartindicatestheamountofleisuretimeperweekthatmalesandfemalesofvariousemploymentstatusesenjoyedoveraoneyearperiodoftimefrom1998to1999.Theemploymentstatusesreferredtoherearegroupedintofivecategorieswhichare:
employedfull-time,part-time,unemployed,retiredandhousewives.
Asisindicatedinthechart,underthebackgroundsofbeingemployedfull-time,unemployedandretired,maleshadmoreleisuretimetoenjoythanfemalesdid.Butwiththeothertwostatuses,namely,beingemployedpart-timeandbeingpurehousewives,maleshadnothingtocomparewithfemales.
Firstly,unemployedandretiredmalesandfemalesenjoyedthegreatestamountofleisuretime.Theaverageweeklyleisuretimeenjoyedbymalesandfemaleswere85hoursand70hoursrespectively.Amongthosewhowereretired,menhad84hourswhilewomenhad69hours.Generallyspeaking,malesandfemalesunderthesetwostatusesofemploymentshowedveryslightdifferenceintermsoftheamountofleisuretimebeingenjoyed.
Secondly,forthosewhoworkedfull-time,malesalsohadmoreleisuretimethanfemalesandthechartshowedthatmaleshad45hourswhilewomen37hours.
Thirdly,whatisreallyinterestingisthatwhileitistotallyunderstandablethattheHousewivescategoryhadnothingtodowithmen,itwasreallyhardtobelievethatthecategoryofbeingemployedpart-timeonlyinvolvedfemalesandnomales.Whatsoever,thefigureweseeis40hoursforpart-timeemployedfemalesand50hoursforhousewives?
Ingeneral,apartfromtwoveryspecialgroups,maleshadmoreleisuretimetoenjoythanfemales.

“Preventionisbetterthancure”.Outofacountry’shealthbudget,alargeproportionshouldbedivertedfromtreatmenttospendingonhealtheducationandpreventativemeasures.Towhatextentdoyouagreeordisagreewiththisstatement?
Therisingcostsofhealthcarehavebecomeanissueformanycountriesintheworld.Todealwiththisproblem,itisrecommendedthatabigpartofthestatehealthbudgetbeusedforhealtheducationanddiseasepreventioninsteadoftreatment.
Firstofall,manykindsofdiseasesarepreventableandpreventingadiseaseisusuallymuchcheaperthantreatingit.Forexample,peoplecouldpreventcatchingacoldiftheydresswarmlyandgetgoodrestwhentheweatherfirstgetscoldinthewinter.Butmanypeoplegetsickbecausetheyfailtodosoandhavetospendmuchmoremoneyseeingadoctor.Anothercaseinpointiscancer,theleadingcauseofdeathintheworld.Butlungcancer,livercancerandmanyotherkindsofcancercouldallbeeffectivelypreventedifpeopletakemeasuresfortheirhealthinanearlystage.Smallthingssuchassmokinglessoreatingmorehealthyfoodwouldhavekeptmillionsoffamiliesfrombecomingbankruptifthepatientstookmeasuresforearlycancerprevention.
Inaddition,healtheducationalsoplaysakeyroleinimprovingpeople’shealth.Bygivingpeoplemoreinformationabouthealth,countriescouldhelppeopleunderstandtheimportanceofdiseasepreventionandwaystoachieveit.
However,emphasizingondiseasepreventionisnotdownplayingthesignificanceofmedicaltreatment.Afterall,preventionandtreatmentarejusttwodifferentmeanstowardthesameend.
Inconclusion,wecouldsavemoneyinhealthcareandtreatpatientsmoresuccessfullyifourcountryusesmoremoneyonhealthpreventionandeducation.

Thetwotablesreflecttheresultsofasurveywhichsampledacross-sectionof100,000Britishpeopleoveraspanoffouryearsfrom1994to1998.Thefirstoneshowsthepurposesoftheirvisitsabroadandthesecondindicatestheirchoicesofdestinations.
Ascanbeseenfromtable1,holiday-makingwasthemainreasonforBritishpeopletotravelabroad.Nextwereforbusinesssakeandforvisitingfriendsandrelatives.Table2showsthatWesternEuropewastheprimarydestinationoftheBritishpeopletravelingabroadandnextcameNorthAmericaandmanydifferentcountriesandareasasawhole.
First,in1994,therewere15,246visitsabroadforholidayspendingwhichcontrastedstrikinglyto3,155visitsforbusiness,2,689visitsforvisitingfriendsandrelativesand982visitsforotherreasons.In1995,weseethatthenumberofvisitspaidbythesampledBritishpeopleinthesurveydecreasedto14,898,butitwasstillmuchhigherthanvisitsforallotherreasons.Inthefollowingyears,wefindthatvisitsforholidaymaking,businessandforvisitingfriendsandrelativescontinuedtorise,amongwhich1996witnessedthebiggestgrowth,increasingfrom14,898to17,896.In1997,visitsforbusinessandforseeingfriendsandrelativessawthelargestgrowthandtherewereanincreaseby390and277respectively.Visitsabroadforotherreasonsfluctuated,droppingfrom982in1994to896in1995andthenclimbingbackto1054beforefinallyfallingto990.Intermsofthetotalofeachdesignatedyear,1998boastedthehighestwith28,828while1995wastheleastwith21,610.
Second,thedestinationsofthevisitsofthesampledpeopleinthesurveyfollowedasimilartrendtotable1.WeseethatWesternEuropereceivedthelargestnumberofvisitorsfromtheUK.In1995,evenwhenthevisitswereatitsbottom,itwasalsoashighas18,944andin1998,itwas24,519,thehighest.
