Probablynot.Wejustexpecttohavesafeliftsinbuildings.

LiftsexistedasfarbackasancientRome.Buttheancient“lifts”weren'tclosedcars.Theyweresimpleplatforms.Theyweretypicallyusedtoraiseupwaterforfarmingorliftheavybuildingmaterialssuchasstones.Theseliftswerepoweredbyanimals,peopleorevenwaterwheels.

ThefirstmodernpassengerliftwasbuiltforKingLouisXVin1743.TheKing'sliftwasinstalled(安装)ontheoutsideofhispalace.Itwentfromthefirsttothesecondfloor.TheKingentereditfromhisbalcony,andthenmenraisedandloweredtheliftthroughtheuseofropesandwheels.

Liftsbecamemorecommoninthemid-1800sduringtheIndustrialRevolutionwhentheytransportedgoodsinfactoriesandmines.Theseliftswereoftenbasedonahydraulic(液压的)system.However,thistypeofliftswasimpracticalfortallbuildings,althoughitbecamepopularbecauseitcouldoperatewiththepublicwatersystem.
