①.FriendshipsofUtility

①.FriendshipsofUtility

Friendshipsofutilityarebasedonpeoplewhoareusefultoeachother.Thisisthesolereasonbehindthembeingfriends.Agoodexampleofafriendshipofutilitymightbetherelationshipbetweenacarsalesmanandacarbuyer（JohnL.Fjellstad）.Thecarsalesmanneedsthebuyerbecausehehastomakealivingandthebuyerneedsthesalesmanbecauseheneedsacar.Bothhavesomethingtheotherwants.Thesefriendshipsdonotlastverylongasoncethebuyerisnolongerusefultothesalesman,orvisaversa,theconnectionisseveredandthefriendshipceasestobe.Friendshipsofutilityarecommonamongoldpeople,forinoldagepeoplepursuetheusefulratherthanthepleasant.

②.FriendshipsofPleasure

Friendshipsofpleasurearebasedontheamountofpleasurethepeoplegetfrombeingintherelationship.Peoplewhogotofootballmatchestogether,orwhogotothepubtogethermightbeinthistypeofrelationship.Theyarefriendsfortheirownsake,becausethefriendshipbringsthempleasureandenjoyment,notfortheirfriend'ssake.Friendshipsofpleasurearecommonamongyoungpeople.Youngpeoplequicklybecomefriendsandquicklyceasetobefriendsbecausewhatpleasuresthemchangesconstantly.

③.FriendshipsofVirtue

Friendshipsofvirtue,unlikefriendshipsofutilityandpleasure,whichcanincludeacircleoffriends,arestrictlyoneononerelationships.Thesetypesoffriendshipscanonlyoccurbetweentwopeopleofthesamevirtuesandbothpersonshavetobevirtuous.Onecanonlybecomevirtuousthroughwisdomandage.Thereforefriendshipsofvirtuearenotfoundamongyoungpeople.Itisarelationshipofmutualrespectandlove.Thepersonsinthistypeofrelationshiparenotinitbe
