1.1Identification
ThisSpecificationestablishesthefunctionalandperformancerequirementsfortheWideAreaAugmentationSystem(WAAS)FullOperationalCapability(FOC).
1.2SystemOverview
TheWAASisasafety-criticalsystemconsistingoftheequipmentandsoftwarethataugmentstheDepartmentofDefense(DOD)GlobalPositioningSystem(GPS)StandardPositioningService(SPS).TheWAASprovidesasignal-in-spacetoWAASUserstosupportallphasesofflight.WAASUsersincludeallaircraftwithapprovedWAASavionicsusingtheWAASforanyapprovedphaseofflight.Thebroadcastsignal-in-spaceprovidestwofunctions:
(1)messaging(dataonGPSandGEOsatellites);
and,
(2)arangingcapability.BackgroundinformationregardingtheGPScanbefoundtheGPSSPSPerformanceStandard.
DatafromtheGPSsatellitesarereceivedandprocessedatwidelydispersedsites,referredtoasWide-areaReferenceStations(WRSs)(SeeTable11).Thesedataareforwardedtodataprocessingsites,referredtoasWide-areaMasterStations(WMSs),whichprocessthedatatodeterminetheintegrity,differentialcorrections,residualerrors,andionosp
