TheannualHalLeonardVocalCompetitionwasfoundedin2011toencourageyoungsingersfromalloverUnitedStatesandCanada,fromchildrenthroughcollegeundergraduates.Thousandsofsingershaveparticipatedinthecompetition,withtopplacingvideosfrom35statesandprovinces,andover40collegesanduniversities.TheHalLeonardVocalCompetitionwasoneofthefirstmusiccompetitionsheldentirelyonYouTube.
Thisyearwithmanysingersstudyingathomeandunabletomeetinpersonwithteachers,wehopethe2021HalLeonardVocalCompetitioncanbearewardingprojectforallparticipantstoexperiencegrowth,community,andenrichment.Thecompetitionoffersathreadofconnectionbetweenallsingerswhoenter,byseeingandhearingtheirpeers(同龄人)online
TherulesoftheHalLeonardVocalCompetitionhavealwaysrequiredthatarecordedaccompaniment(伴奏)mustbeanofficialHalLeonardrecording.Becauseofthespecialcircumstanceswearein,forthe2021competition,wewillallowasingertouseanaccompanimentrecordingmadethatisnotanofficialHalLeonardrecording,providedthattheaccompanimentrecordedmatchesexactlytheeditionofthesongsfrombookschosenontherequiredrepertoire(全部曲目)list.Theaccompanimentmustbepianoorkeyboardonly.
Unlikealmosteveryothermusiccompetition,thereisnoentryfeeintheHalLeonardVocalCompetition.WedeliberatelywantyoungsingersfromanylocationinNorthAmericatobeabletoenter,withouttheexpenseoftraveltoanaudition(试镜)site.AndsingerscanviewandhearothersonYouTubefromaroundtheUSandCanadawhoareintheirownagegroup.Voiceteachershavetoldusthatitisinstructivetohearhundredsofsingersfromotherstudios.
