In1884,theprincebuilthisownmuseumtoshowoffhiscollection.Whenthemuseumclosedin1976,thepieceswentintostorage(贮藏).
“Thereappearanceofsuchacollectionisaveryimportantevent,”saidarthistorianSalvatoreSettis.“WhenIfirstsawthem,theywereveryemotionalbecauseIknewmostofthosepiecesfrombooks,butIhadneverseenthem.”
TheTorloniafamilychoseSettistohelpwiththedifficultjobofdecidingwhichworksshouldbeshowntothepublic.AnnaMariaCarrubahelpedpreparethestatuesfortheshow.“Manyofthesepieceswerealreadyrestoredfrom(theyear)1600onwards.Wedidn’tneedtoworkonthestructureofthestatuesbutonlyonthesurfaces,cleaningthem,”shesaid.
