Step1

CreateanewdocumentandcreateanellipsewiththeEllipsetool（L）.WiththeDirectSelectiontool（A）,selectthetopanchorintheellipseanddragitupalmostdoublingitsoriginalsize.Withtheanchorpointstillselected,theControlpaneldefaultstoAnchorPointtools.PresstheConvertSelectedAnchorPointstoCornerbutton.

Step2

TakeoffanystrokeappliedtotheellipseandfillitwithaRadialGradient.Forthisgradientwearegoingtoaddonemorecolorstopcreatingatotalofthreecolorstops.Toaddacolorstoptothegradient,clickrightbelowtheGradientSliderintheGradientPanel.Changethefirstcolorstop’scolortoalighttancolor,thesecondtoaslightlydarkertancolor,andthethirdtoadarkertancolor.Selectthemiddlecolorstopandchangethelocationto32.SelectthemiddlepointbetweenthesecondandthirdcolorstopandchangetheLocationto60.

Step3

Createanotherellipseandcoverthelowerfourthofthemaindropshape.Selectthethedropshape,Copy（Command+C）,andPasteinFront（Command+F）.SelectthecopyandthenewellipseandpresstheIntersectbuttonfromthePathfinderpanel.Fillthenewshapewithyourtancolor,changetheBlendingModetheMultiply,andsettheOpacityto40fromtheTransparencypanel.

SelectthemaindropshapeandgoObject>

OffsetPathandintheOffsetdialogchangetheOffsetto-5px（thisvaluemightbedifferentdependingonthedimensionsofyouroriginaldropshape）.CreateapathwiththePenTool（P）andwhereitoverlapsthebodyofthedrop,createawaveshapethestartsabouthalfwayupthebodyandendsclosetoafourththewaydownthebody.Selectyourpenshape,theoffsetcopy,andpresstheIntersectbuttonfromthePathfinderpanel.Changethefillofthenewshapetoalineargradientwithbothcolorstopswhite.Changetheopacityofthefirstcolorstopto32andtheopacityofthesecondcolorstopto14.ChangetheAngleofthegradientto90andthemiddlepointLocationto30.

Step5

OffsetPathandintheOffsetdialogchangetheOffsetto-5px（thisvaluemightbedifferentdependingonthedimensionsofyouroriginaldropshape）.HoldtheAlt/OptionkeyandusetheSelectiontool（V）todragoutacopyoftheoffset.Rotatetheoffsetslightlytotheleftandplaceovertheoriginaloffsetsothetoppointslineup.SelecttheoffsetanditscopyandpresstheMinusFrontbuttonfromthePathfinderpanel.Fillthenewshapewithathreecolorstoplineargradient.Changethefirstcolorstoptowhite,thesecondtoalighttan,andthethirdtowhite.Changethelocationofthesecondswatchto60,themiddlepointLocationbetweenthefirstandsecondto80,andtheAngleto-90.Next,changetheBlendingModetoMultiply.

Step6

Selectthemaindropshapeandoffsetitby10px.Dragoutacopyoftheoffsetandrotatelikeinthepreviousstepexceptrotateittotheright.SelectbothshapesandpresstheMinusFrontbuttonfromthePathfinderpanel.DrawarectanglewiththeRectangleTool（M）abouthalfwaydownthemaindropshapecoveringthebottomoftheoffsetshape.SelecttheoffsetshapeandtherectangleandpresstheMinusFrontbutton.Changethefillofthenewshapetoalineargradientwiththebothcolorsstopwhite.Changetheopacityofthefirstcolorstopto30,thesecondoneto0,setthemiddlepointLocationto60,andchangetheAngleto-90.

Step7

Createanellipseandfillitwithagrayandwhitecolorstopradialgradient.Maketheellipseaboutaswideasthewaterdropshape.SquishtheellipsewiththeSelectiontool（V）andplaceitbelowandbehindallthedropshapes.

Step8

Createasupertinyellipse（mineisonlyacoupleofpixelswide）andfillitwithadarkbrowncolor.DragtheellipseintotheBrushespanelandwhentheNewBrushdialogopens,chooseScatterBrush.ThefollowScatterBrushsettingarewhatIamusing.Yoursettingsmightbedifferentdependingonthedimensionsofyourartwork.ChangetheSizetoRandomfromtheSizepop-upmenu,changethefirstpercentageto44,andthesecondto155.ChangetheSpacingtoRandomfromtheSizepop-upmenu,changethefirstpercentageto802,andthesecondto67.ChangetheScattertoRandomfromtheSizepop-upmenu,changethefirstpercentageto1000,andthesecondto333.SelectyournewbrushintheBrushespanel,selectyourPaintbrushtool（B）andcreateacoupleofpathsoveryourdrop.Varysomeoftheopacitylevelsofthedifferentpathstoaddsomedepth.
