Cross-dockingisthedirecttransferofpalletsorcontainersfromthereceivingporttotheportofshipment,notthestorageofthegoodsinthestorageareafirst.

Obviously,cross-linkingcanreducecostsandimproveefficiency,buttheconceptofcross-shipmenthasnotbeenpopularizedfornearly20years,forthefollowing5reasons:
