一、课程性质和目的

土木工程专业英语是土木工程专业的专业基础课程，是高校英语教学和专业教学中一个不可缺少的重要组成部分，是大学英语和研究生英语教学中一个重要的环节，它既是基础英语教学的延伸，又是基础英语与专业教学的融合，担负着促使学生从学习英语阶段过渡到使用英语阶段的任务。

通过讲授土木专业相关基本知识，科技英语的语法特点和文体结构，以及英语科技论文、合同、招标书的写作，使学生掌握一定数量的土木工程专业英语常用词汇、专业术语，能够阅读和翻译土木建筑专业英语技术文献；

使学生能够利用外语这个工具、掌握有关土木工程专业的英文原版文献资料以及英文科技文献的阅读和翻译技巧，能够直接使用和消化国外各种英文专业科技文献；

能写所学专业论文的英文摘要，能借助参考资料撰写科技论文。

为更好地从事本专业打下较扎实的基础。

二、课程的基本要求

1.了解土木工程专业英语的专业词汇；

2.了解专业外语常用的句式和语法；

3.了解科技英语的翻译方法和技巧；

4.巩固和补充专业知识，扩大专业知识面；

5.能够基本正确地阅读和理解本专业英语书籍和文献；

6.了解科技论文的体系，掌握科技论文的撰写，尤其是摘要及关键词的撰写；

7.对日常英语进一步提高，扩大词汇，尤其是土木工程专业方面的专业词汇和短语；

8.掌握建筑工程、道路、铁路、桥梁、地下工程、港口工程、飞机场工程、给排水工程等所涉及的基本概念、基本知识及英文表达；

了解学科主要内容、最新研究成果、发展方向等内容。
