Cuttinggrapevinesmustbedoneverycarefully.Onlyatargetedareaofleavesisremovedfromthelowerpartofthevinestohelpthegrapesgrowbetter.ButattheFeatherstoneWinery,nomanormachinedoesthecutting.Instead,thejobisdoneby40littlewoolylambs.

DavidJohnsonownsthevineyard.HesayshelearnedaboutusinglambswhilevisitingwineriesinNewZealand.Theyounglambsareperfectlydesignedtodothejob.Theyeatthegrapeleavesonthelowerpartsofthevine.Buttheyarenottallenoughtoreachthegrapes.Theyonlyweighabout22kilograms,sotheydonotbeatdownthesoil.Andtheirwastemakesgoodorganicfertilizer.Inaddition,usingthelambscostsmuchlessthanhiringworkerstocutthevinesforsevenweeksinsummer.AndwhenthecuttingisdoneinAugust,thelambsbecometastydishes.
