1.1ThepurposeofthisStandardistoestablishterminologypertinenttograincombinedesignandperformance.Itisintendedtoimprovecommunicationamongengineersandresearchersandtoprovideabasisforcomparativelistingofmachinespecifications.

2.1Header:
Theportionofthecombinecomprisingthemechanismsforgatheringthecrop.
2.1.1Gatheringwidth:
Thedistancebetweenthecenterlinesoftheoutermostdividerpoints;
expressedinmeterstothenearesthundredth.Whereadjustabledividersareusedthemaximumandminimumdimensionsshallbestated.
2.1.2Grainheaderwidth:
Thedistancebetweenthesidesheetsoftheheadermeasuredimmediatelyabovetheforwardtipsofthesicklesections;
expressedinmeterstothenearesthundredth.
2.1.3Maize(earcorn)headerwidth:
Theaveragedistancebetweenthecenterlinesofadjacentpickingunitsmultipliedbythenumberofunits.Wheretheheaderwidthisadjustable,maximumandminimumdistancesbetweencenterlinesshallbestated,expressedincentimeterstothenearestwholecentimeter.Themaximumandminimumheaderwidthsshallthenbeexpressedinmeterstothenearesthundredth,andthenumberofpickingunitsshallbestated.
