Fannonsaysnearly20percentofelectronicwasteisrecyclednationwide.Thirteenyearsago,itwasonlyabout6percent.Recyclingratescontinuetoriseasmorecommunitieshavebannedelectronicsfromlandfillsinanefforttokeepewastepoisonslikelead(铅)andmercury(汞)outofgarbagedumps.

ThisyearseveralstateslikeVermontimposedabanonelectronicwasteinlandfills.Morethan25otherstateshavealsoadoptedlandfillbans,ewasterecyclingprogramsorboth.ChazMillersaysmorecanbedonetoboostelectronicwasterecycling.
