WifislaxisaSlackware-basedLinuxdistributiondesignedforwirelesshackingandforensics.It’snotonthelistofPentesting,digitalforensics,andhackingdistributionsthatIpublishedlastweek,butwiththisarticle,itjustgotadded.

Wifislack4.6,thelateststableedition,wasreleasedonJuly31（2013）.ThisisaSpanishdistributionthat’smadeavailablefordownloadasaninstallable32-bitISOimage.Shownbelowisthebootmenu.Bydefault,thebootoptionsareinSpanish,whichisnotsurprising,consideringthatthedevelopersarefromSpain.

Pastthefirstbootmenu,thereareoptionstobootintoaKDEorXfceLivedesktop.AndtherearePersistentoptionsforbothdesktopenvironments.AttemptingtobootintoeitherPersistentoptionalwaysfailed,forreasonsthatIcouldnotdecipher.Andthefactthatthereisalocalizationissuedidn’thelpmatters.

Thisisthegraphicalinstaller,Thelocalizationissueisobvious.Clicking“Siguiente”beginstheinstallationprocess.

Aproblemwiththeinstalleristhatthereisnoautomaticdiskpartitioningmode.Sothetargetharddiskdrive（HDD）hastobepartitionedusingGParted,whichisnotevenintegratedintotheinstaller.

TheotherproblemwiththeinstallationprocessofWifislaxisthatthebootloaderinstallationstepisnotintegratedintotheinstalleritself.SothatGRUB,thebootloader,hastobeinstalledusinganotherapplicationthat,liketheinstaller,hastobelaunchedfromthemenu.ThisscreenshotshowstheentriesfortheinstallerandGRUBinstallerinthemenu.

ButIwasnotawareofthatlittlefactaboutthestepsinvolvedintheinstallationofWifislaxbeforeImademyfirstattempt.Sothatwhentheinstaller’sprogressbarremainedat90%foralongtimewithoutanysignofactivity,Ijustassumedthattheprocesshadfailed,notrealizingthat90%completionmarkstheendofpackageinstallation,andasignaltoquittheinstallerandlaunchtheGRUB2InstallerScript.ButIonlyfiguredthatoutaftermorethanthreeinstallationattempts.

SotheinstallationofWifislax4.6involvesthreedifferentsteps,usingthreeseparateapplications.Thisscreenshotshowstheinstaller’sprocessbaratthe90%mark.

ThisistheinterfaceoftheGRUB2InstallerScript.EventhoughIloggedinusingtheEnglishlanguagemenuoption,theoptionshereareinSpanish.
