In1936,Grahammadeherdefiningwork,“Chronicle”,whichsignaledthebeginningofanewera(纪元)inmodemdance.Thedancebroughtseriousissuestothestageforthegeneralpublicinadramaticmanner.InfluencedbytheWallStreetCrashof1929,theGreatDepressionthatfollowed,andtheSpanishCivilWar,itfocusedondepressionandisolation,reflectedinthedarknatureofboththesetandcostumes.Grahamcontinuedtodancepasttheageofseventy.Onceagain,shewasmetwithcriticismfrompeoplewhocametowatchhershows.Butshedidn’tgiveup.Herlastcompletedballet(芭蕾舞)was1990’sMapleLeafRag.“ADancer’sWorld”isanintroductiontoGrahamandherwork.Shetellsaboutherdancesandherdancegroupshowssomeoftheirmethods.
