Howoftenanindividualengagedinartactivities,alsoincludingexhibitions,concertsandoperabutnotcinema,wasmeasuredatthestartofthestudyin2004to2005.Thestudylookedatarangeofeconomic,healthandsocialfactorstotryandexplainwhythereisalinkbetween“artsengagement"andlivinglonger,althoughasanobservationalstudyitcan'testablishcause.Partofthereason,thestudysaid,comesdowntosocialandeconomicdifferencesamongthosewhogoanddon'tgotomuseums,exhibitionsandartgalleries.Wealth,theyfound,explainedabout9%oftheassociation.Cognitive(认知的)differences,socialengagementandmentalhealthalsoplayedarole.
