In1884thefamilydecidedtomovetoDaytonandtheyremainedthereuntilthe1870’s.AprintingpresswasbuiltbythetwoandWilburwasaneditor.In1892theystartedbeingfascinatedbytheaeronautical(航空的)eventsofthattime.ThentheystartedtocreateanairplaneandWilburwasconsideredtheheadoftheteam.Theyweretheinventorsof“threeaxis-control”,whichpermittedthepilottosteertheaircraft’sbalance.

In1900theyhadtheirfirstattemptstomakeafunctionalglider(滑翔机)—ofcourseitdidn’thaveapilot.Afterthreeyearstheythoughtofintroducinganenginetotheglider.Atfirst,theirpatent(专利)applicationwasrefusedin1903,butafteroneyearitwasaccepted.
