本试卷分选择题和非选择题两部分。

WhenWaltWhitmanfirstappearedasapoet,hisarrivalontotheAmericanliteraryscenewasmetwithcontroversy(争议).Hisfirstcollectionofpoems,LeavesofGrass,wassounusualthatnocommercial(商业的)publisherwouldprintthework.In1855Whitmanpublished,athisownexpense,thefirsteditionofhiscollectionoftwelvepoems.

Whitman’spoeticstylewasuncommoninthesensethathewrotepoemsinaformcalledparallelism(对比法),inwhichhisgoalwastocopytheflowoftheseaandthequickly-passingnatureofhumanemotion.AcommonthemeinWhitman’spoetryisself-realization.Inhiswork,Whitmanmovesfromconventionalpatternsofrhymetocreateauniquerhythmandamulti-layered,buttrulyAmericanvoice.
