“Wearespendingbillionsofpoundsinpreventingandcuringheartdiseases—ifweareabletoinvestincreatinghealthycitiesthroughsmallchangesinthedesignofourneighborhoodstomakethemmoreactivityfriendlyandwalkable,thenprobably,wewillhavesignificantsavingsinfuturehealthcareexpenses.”
Poorlydesignedspacesgenerallyreducedwalkingandphysicalactivity,promotingthelifestylesoflongtimesittingdownandnotmoving,andwereharmfultosocialcommunication,andassuchrelatedtopoorermentalandphysicalhealth.
