  TherevisedGREGeneralTestwillreflectchangesmadetotheverbalreasoning,quantitativereasoning,andanalyticalwritingmeasures.Thesechangesreflectadesiretoincreasethevalidityofthetest,enhancetestsecurity,providefacultywithbetterinformationaboutapplicants’performance,increaseworldwideaccesstothetest,andmakebetteruseofadvancesintechnologyandpsychometricdesign.Aspartofthesechanges,arangeofnewquestiontypeswillbeintroducedintheverbalreasoningandquantitativereasoningsections,andthetopicsintheanalyticalwritingsectionwillberevisedinordertoelicitmorefocusedresponses.

  DescriptionoftheRevisedGeneralTest

  Theverbalreasoningmeasureisdesignedtoassessthefundamentalabilitiesrequiredforunderstandingwrittentextsandreasoningaboutthem.Questionswillmeasureyourabilitytointerpret,analyze,andevaluatetextsofvariouslengthsandtoreasonwithwordsinsolvingproblems.Thereisabalanceofpassagesacrossdifferentsubjectmatterareas,includinghumanities,socialsciences,andnaturalsciences,butthequestionsdonotassessspecificcontentknowledge.

  Thequantitativereasoningmeasureisdesignedtoassessyourabilitytosolveproblemsinaquantitativesetting,usingquantitativereasoning,elementarymathematicalconcepts,andbasicmathematicalskills.Themathematicalcontentrequireddoesnotgobeyondthemathematicsusuallystudiedinhighschoolandincludesarithmetic,algebra,geometry,anddataanalysis.Forindividualstakingthetestbycomputer,anonlinecalculatorwillbeprovidedforuseinthequantitativesections.Forindividualstestinginalternateformats,ahand-heldbasiccalculator(onethatsupportsorderofoperationsisrecommended),includingatalkingcalculatorifapprovedasanaccommodation,willbepermi

  ttedinthequantitativesections.

  Theanalyticalwritingsectiontestsyourcriticalthinkingandanalyticalwritingskills.Itassessesyourabilitytoarticulateandsupportcomplexideas,analyzeanargument,andsustainafocusedandcoherentdiscussion.Itdoesnotassessspecificcontentknowledge.
