AdaptiveActionSportswasfoundedin2005byAmyPurdyandDanielGale.

AmyPurdywasanactivesnowboarder,untilshelostbothherlegstobacterialmeningitis(脑脊膜炎).Shespentthreemonthsinthehospitalfightingforherlife,anddoctorsgaveheralessthantwopercentchanceofsurvival.BecauseofmeningitisAmylostcirculationinbothherlegs,andwhenshecameoutofthehospitalshehadprostheticlegs(义肢).Whenshelostherlegs,Amyknewshewouldbeactiveagain,butdidn’tknowhoworwhen.Shestruggledtobeactiveonhernewlegs,andalittleovertwoyearsafterheramputation(截肢)sheenteredtheUSASA(UnitedStatesofAmericaSnowboardAssociation)NationalSnowboardingCompetitionandwonmedalsinthreeevents.

Amywasatanadaptivesnowboardworkshopin2002whenshemetDanielGale.Theyimmediatelyformedaconnectionthroughtheirenthusiasmforsnowboarding,music,andart.Amy’sbiggeststrugglehadbeenobtaininginformationonhowtostartsnowboardingagainwithprostheticlegs,andsheandDanielbothsawtheneedtohelpotherslikeAmy.They“wantedtocreatesomething,aplace,aforum,anorganizationthatwouldenableindividualstofindandparticipateintheirenthusiasmswithoutastruggle.AdaptiveActionSportswasborn.”
